About AGODA

The Alabama Guild of Decorative Artisits (AGODA) is a chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters.  AGODA objectives are held in common with those of the national Society of Decorative Painters and specifically include the following:

  • To meet together for the recreation, pleasure and fellowship in painting

  • To assist one another to improve our painting ability

  • To provide for special instruction for members which will further encourage and improve their abilities in tole and decorative painting.

We currently have 115 members.  The chapter meets at 10:00 AM the fourth Saturday of each month except for March, May, November and December.  In March, we have our annual paint-in retreat.  In May, we meet on the third Saturday.  In November, we participate in the Christmas village at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center.  In December, we have our annual Christmas luncheon.

The chapter's meeting location has changed as of May 2009:

Bluff Park United Methodist Church

733 Valley Street

Hoover, Alabama 35226

Directions:  From I-65.  Exit at Alford Avenue (Exit 254).
Go west on Alford Avenue,  for 2 miles, to the first stop sign.
Go straight into  the church parking lot.

At our meetings, members furnish snacks and drinks.  After the meeting, there is a painting class taught by one of our members or visiting teachers.  Classes last approximately 2 to 3 hours.  It is a fun time for all.  Non-members can attend one meeting annually as a guest.  Come and join us at one of our meetings.
